Technology Overview

Sidescan sonar is routinely used to locate and map location of existing pipelines as well as for planning routes by collecting acoustic imagery.  The seafloor acoustic reflectivity is recorded and is used to help identify differing seafloor materials.  Our ADCP Doppler unit calculates the flow measurements which include date/mean gage reading/mean velocity/max velocity/width/area/discharge and water temperature. Using the ADCP makes it no longer necessary to maintain ranges or hold the boat stationary over a point.  A typical range can be measured in minutes electronically as opposed to several hours conventional.  Our Marine Magnetometer incorporates an acoustic altimeter and depth sensor to allow precise height adjustment; utilized to locate magnetic material such as pipelines, cables or seafloor artifacts.  The Sub-bottom Profiler can be used to determine seafloor density and depth of cover.

Simultaneous Operation

Using these in conjunction can provide position data, depth of cover, seafloor sediment regime, and orientation of buried pipelines, cables, wrecks and debris.
